Dear Chippewa Family-

In 1958 a group of visionaries came together to create a camp for all of God’s children to experience Christ in an outdoor setting while worshipping, learning, and growing together in nature. This was their mission for the original 219 acres that was to become Camp Chippewa. As we finish our 60th year in ministry, we continue to live out that mission in 660 beautiful acres that sprawl across the Chippewa Hills outside of Ottawa, Kansas.  With the help and support from numerous people and the blessings of our gracious God, Camp Chippewa continues to share the saving knowledge of Christ through summer camps, Institute, Fall Festivals, volunteer work retreats, winter camps, after-school programs, weddings, year-round retreats, community events, NOMADS projects, and conference events.

As we celebrate sixty years of ministry, we are constantly reminded of our vast tradition and how far the camp has come because of supporters like you. Beginning with 219 acres of wooded hills and springs, campers in the Kansas Methodist Church began taking part in fellowship on the grounds in the summer of 1958. In 1961 the first building, Coldsmith Lodge, was constructed on site in memory of Rev. Gordon Coldsmith, a pastor from Wamego, Kansas who was instrumental in the original land acquisition. Over the next two decades, four additional cabins and the Wolf’s Den Dining Hall were added to the camp. With a strong foundation of faith and deeply rooted in the mission of serving for the betterment of God’s world, Camp Chippewa has continued to grow into a sanctuary for thousands of people to experience the healing power of Christ through nature, fellowship, and service.

As we reflect back on this past summer, we served 877 overnight campers, our largest number in the past 10 years. In addition to our overnight campers, we served 524 day campers through our partnership with the Ottawa Recreation Commission. It was an amazing summer, with the camp full of laughter, singing, and learning! Outside of June and July, Chippewa hosted guest groups each weekend this year by providing a safe, clean, and faith-driven facility for guests from many different organizations, churches, and schools, to come together in fellowship as they enjoy the wonder of camp. With the hard work and gifts of many people like you, we are able to bring all of these people to the saving knowledge of Christ by providing activities, meals, and lodging.

Looking forward to the next sixty years, we share many of the same dreams that those before us had for Chippewa. As we grow and serve more people, we are in need of additional cabins, an indoor riding arena and barn, a high-ropes course, chapel and a new dining hall. These projects are just the beginning to creating a space to serve all of God’s people.

God is Good! He works in mighty and mysterious ways, through the hands and hearts of the incredible Chippewa campers, staff, volunteers and you. Your gifts allow for continued growth and development to improve programs and facilities at Camp Chippewa so we can positively affect the lives of all who come to Chippewa. Your contributions, that you so graciously share, allow more people to experience God’s transformational love. Whether it be time, skills, resources, knowledge, or money, your generous gift allows God’s hand to be at work year-round at Camp Chippewa.

In this season of thanksgiving and celebration, please consider making a gift to Camp Chippewa. We thank you for your support and invite you to be a part of God’s magnificent creation at Camp Chippewa, where Faith and Fun come together!

Thank you so much for being a part of our family! – Camp Chippewa Site Council
